Alligator on Tybee Beach

A 9-foot-long, 300 pound alligator was captured on Tybee’s North Beach Monday. Jack Douglas, known as "Trapper Jack" caught the gator and will kill it, then sell its meat and hide. Gators smaller than 5 feet are released back into the wild, but this old guy didn’t make the cut. It may be just as well, as it was unusually bold, lurking in the water of a popular swimming area. Douglas has trapped around 5,000 gators in the Savannah area since 1989 and only two of those were found on the beach.
