The Saint Patrick’s Day Parade is always a fun event in Savannah, and this year was no exception. Although a little cloudy, the day brought great weather for parade-goers. My husband and I parked our car at a friend’s house, and a group of us rode bikes to the festivities. The bike ride was enjoyable, and we had the added bonus of not having to look for a parking space or walk for blocks to get to the parade route. The parade held the usual green-painted horses, marching men with lipstick smeared across their smiling faces, high school marching bands, dancing children and smiling pageant queens. This year’s events will likely keep visitors in Savannah longer than usual. Since the parade was held on a Friday, most out-of-town visitors arrived Thursday evening and will probably stay through Sunday. Be sure to head downtown to people watch and enjoy the beautiful weather and blooming flowers!

This weekend was the Grand Opening of the Lofts on Broughton Street in downtown Savannah. My husband and I went, taking along three friends of ours. What a great turnout! While we were there, there was a steady stream of people coming and going, and there were at least 100 people there at all times. The event was catered by Locos, with entertainment by Trae Girley and a great artwork display by Penelope Miller.
Several completed lofts were open for touring, while the main event - the cocktail party - was held in a giant unfinished corner space with exposed beams, brick walls and a great view of Broughton Street.

Today was a gorgeous day for Super Museum Sunday. Savannah area museums offered free admission for the hundreds of people who turned out to enjoy the arts. My husband Rob and I were among them, and we had a great time. We visited the Jepson Center for the Arts, the Telfair Museum and the Owens-Thomas House. Part of the fun was walking from museum to museum. The weather was perfect, everyone was out walking through the squares, and some of the trees have even begun to flower. The sound of laughter floating through the air was invigorating.

Mark your calendars. 2008’s famous St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Savannah will be on Friday, March 14th instead of the 17th. The date shift is to avoid a conflict with Holy Week, since Easter is on March 23rd this year.
Our city’s favorite celebration draws a crowd of around 300,000 each year. Unless you plan on being pinched thousands of times, be sure and take your fashion cues from the cutie on the right.
Check out what the AJC has to say on the subject.

Of the 3,891 homes listed for sale in the Greater Savannah area, 60 are described as having an in-law suite. I’ve had several customers request homes with in-law suites lately, and why not? Even if you don’t have a parent who’s elderly or has health problems now, you might one day, right? In the mean time, it’s a great place for out-of-town guests or teenagers to crash and stay out of your hair.

Super Museum Sunday is Feb. 10, 2008. From 12:00-4:00 p.m. you’ll get free admission to Savannah area museums, including the Jepson Center for the Arts, the Roundhouse, the Mighty Eighth and some great house museums like the Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace and the Owens-Thomas House. This is a great event for locals and visitors alike. I, for one, can’t wait! There are several area museums that I haven’t visited yet, but that will change this Sunday. Check back here for photos and a play-by-play of my Super Museum Sunday. For a list of participating museums, visit www.georgiahistory.com. Don’t forget to visit Oatland Island while you’re at it, and see some great animals. See you there!

What is every first-time home buyer dying to know about the mortgage process? Well, Casey Wells of First Carolina Mortgage (Daniel’s lender on his first home purchase) is here to give us some answers. As you read the interview I conducted with him, if you have any questions or comments for Casey, please feel free to post them in the comments section, and I’ll get an answer for you.
Rebecca: What does a buyer need to do to find out if they can afford a certain home?
Casey: If a buyer is interested in buying a home, a mortgage officer such as myself can qualify the customer and let them know exactly what amount they qualify for.
R: How do you go about helping a buyer decide what price range of home they can afford?
